Hand Held Devices
PSI manufactures range of small hand held devices that are very useful in field study as well as lab experiments. Below are the hand held devices developed by PSI.
The FluorPen FP 110 is a portable, battery-powered PAM fluorometer that enables quick and precise measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in the laboratory, greenhouse, or in the field. It can be effectively used for studying photosynthetic activity, stress detection, herbicide testing, or mutant screening.
Monitoring Pen is an extended version of the popular FluorPen, that offers measurement of equal fluorescence parameters and protocols – Ft, QY, OJIP, NPQ and Light Curve. Due to its robust and weatherproof construction the Monitoring Pen is designed for long-term, unattended monitoring of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters in indoor or outdoor experiments.
PlantPen is a reflectance-based device that provides a convenient, low-cost method of measuring the relative chlorophyll content of attached or detached leaves. PlantPens measure and calculate specific reflectance indices to monitor chlorophyll content, photoprotecting carotenoids, and other important aspects of live foliage. Two standard PlantPen versions measure the most common indexes: Photochemical Reflectance Index (PRI) and Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI).
N-Pen N 110 is a light-weight, battery-powered reflectance-based instrument that provides a convenient, cost-effective method for effective nitrogen management in plants throughout their growing season. Essentially, the N-Pen characterizes nitrogen amount by means of reflectance and by the concept of a close link between chlorophyll content and nitrogen content in plants.
The PolyPen RP 410 is a sophisticated handheld instrument that incorporates an internal Xenon incandescent lamp and measures spectral reflectance of leaves.
The PolyPen-Aqua PA 210 is a portable, handheld, and affordable spectrophotometer. It is convenient for quick and reliable measurements of absorbance and transmittance in liquid samples between 380 – 790 nm. Samples are measured in standard cuvettes. The PA 210 features an inbuilt GPS module and can be used as a self-contained instrument for various field applications.
SpectraPen LM 510 is a handheld portable spectroradiometer that is ideal as a general-purpose instrument for research and for agricultural applications. SpectraPen LM 510 measures in radiometric or photometric units the intensity of the light received. SpectraPen is especially useful for rapid measurements of spectral light quality, for monitoring of artificial lighting and for quantification of light radiation.
SpectraPen mini is a small, portable and affordable calibrated spectroradiometer and quantum light meter, which is controlled via mobile application. The SpectraPen mini measures spectral quality, light intensity and color.
The SpectraPen SP 110 is a low-cost, handheld spectrophotometer that is ideal as a general-purpose instrument for research labs, agricultural and industrial applications. SpectraPen is especially useful for rapid measurements of solar irradiance and monitoring of spectral light quality. External light source and sample holder enable to use SpectraPen also for measurements of absorption, reflectance, transmittance, emission, color and fluorescence of various samples.
The LaiPen LP 110 measures Leaf Area Index (LAI), defined as one-sided green leaf area per unit ground surface area (m2 per m2) in broadleaf canopies. The LaiPen LP 110 calculates LAI, and other canopy structure attributes, from solar radiation measurements made with a wide-angle optical sensor. Measurements made above and below the canopy are used to determine canopy light interception at five angles, from which LAI is computed using a model of radiative transfer in vegetative canopies.
